Slate was commissioned by Peter Martins and the New York City Ballet, and featured Suzanne Farrell in her last role before her retirement in 1989.
Slate can be performed as just the first movement, as it appeared originally on the Argo disk, Chamber Music (now on album "five" on Ecstatic Records)
