Program Note:
The strand of pitches of the brass call at the opening of Oracle provides the complete genetic material of that piece. Using truncated parts of this theme is the principle method of “being the same but different.” Oracle was designed to be a concert opener—announcing the orchestra’s presence in a dignified way, and heralding the riches of repertory that will follow on whatever concert program it is presented.
